Abstract:
The study evolved from the basic
premise that the existing distribution
structure is not adequate or adaptive to
meet the needs of the expanding manufacturing
sector and the emerging mass market.
The hypothised causes of the problem are
the following: marketing channels
are not used for strategy differentiation
by manufacturers: there are too many intermediaries
in the channels; the distributive
institutions are not adaptive; and there
is very little control over the flow of
products through the channels. These
assumptions about the causes of the problem
have been translated into specific
hypotheses and tested with data. Empirical
analysis, while supporting some of these
hypotheses, challenges certain widely held
notions. The ensuing summary presents the
important findings, in the sequence in
which they are discussed in the study.

Abstract:
Chit funds contribute to the value of financial markets in India particularly in Kerala. Chit finances with its unique features are of great significance especially as a savings cum borrowing avenue. The present study entitled “A Study of chit Finance in Kerala with special emphasis on Kerala State Financial Enterprises Ltd.” examines the socio-economic aspects of Chit schemes run by the private Chit Funds, KSFE, co-operatives, and informal Chit Funds. The study is an attempt to find the reasons for the growing popularity of Chit Funds as savings cum borrowings avenues even in the presence of various other avenues of savings and borrowings and also to understand how the Chit subscribers utilize the funds. The objectives of the present study are to examine the trends and pattern of growth of Chit Funds in the formal sector in Kerala, performance of KSFE as the only public sector Chit Fund company in India, preference for joining Chit Funds, estimate the cost and return on Chit Funds etc. is an indigenous financial instrument is complementary to modern financial techniques of savings and borrowings. KSFE is the dominant foremen in the chit business in Kerala, its weaknesses result in the non-attainment of certain objectives. Driven by the growing trend of privatization, KSFE needs to be innovative and competitive. It is also necessary that KSFE continue its leadership role by being more effective in being the harbinger of more efficiency, professionalism and good governance in the Chit Fund Industry. The growth and development of chit business by protecting the interests of both the subscribers and the foremen will therefore be most beneficial for any growing economy.

Abstract:
While the quantum of advances from the public sector banks (PSBs) to the MSEs has increased over the years in absolute terms, from Rs.46, 045 crore in March 2000 to Rs.1, 85,208 crore in March 2009, the share of the 7credit to the MSE sector in the Net Bank Credit (NBC) has declined from 12.5 per cent to 10.9 per cent. Similarly, there has been a decline in the share
of micro sector as a percentage of Net Bank Credit (NBC) from 7.8 per cent in March 2000 to 4.9% in March 2009. (TKA.Nair, 2010)9.The major reasons for low availability of bank finance to this sector are high risk perception of the banks in lending to MSEs and high transaction costs in processing of loan applications of MSEs. The problem is more serious for micro enterprises
requiring small loans and the first generation entrepreneursThe thesis studies the divergence in guidelines by, CGTMSE, RBI & Bank of Baroda on collateral free lending and analyses the awareness of MSE about CGTMSE lending. The researcher tries to assess the problems faced by borrowers in availing advance under CGTMSE from Bank of Baroda, Kerala.

Abstract:
The report of the Steering Committee of the Kerala State
Planning Board for the preparation of the VIII five Year Plan on Industry and Hiningzslisted several factors inhibiting and promoting growth of small industrial units. Kerala's educated manpower, the native intelligence of the Keralites best suited for taking up logic—based professions and availability of a Hell—developed and broad~based physical infrastructure particularly in the transport and communications sectors, are a few of the positive factors identified. On the negative side, may be mentioned high wage rates, preference on the part of the educated for white collar Jobs, lack of entrepreneurship, paucity of essential resources for industrial use, high density of population and the distance factor which places Kerala away from the major domestic markets. In this context, it would appear that the industrial co-operative movement could possibly play a vital role in accelerating-the momentum of small industrial development of Kerala which has a Health of highly educated and skilled manpower. However, in spite of the encouragement extended by the Government, the movement does not seem to have.been picking up in the modern small scale sector. The present study is an attempt to analyse the factors that have affected the performance of the industrial co—operatives in the small scale industrial sector of Kerala.

Abstract:
The co-operative credit structure in a state
set up consists of 3 tiers — Primary Societies at the base,
District Co-operative Banks at the middle and State Cooperative
Bank at the top. But, some societies at the
primary level are governed by, in addition to Co-operative
Societies Act, the Banking Regulation Act. Thus they are
under dual control. In addition, they are working under
the direct purview of Reserve Bank of India. The scope
of this study is restricted to such Primary Societies,
District Co-operative Banks and State Co-operative Bank.
For the evaluation of the working of Co-operative
Banks, the board of directors and staff were interviewed
with the help of pre-constructed and pre-tested interview
schedules. However, the share holders and customers were
not interviewed mainly because almost all respondents
were reluctant to provide copies of an exhaustive list
of share holders and non-share holder customers, for
the purpose of maintaining secrecy. This being an
individual work, it was found physically and financially
very difficult to extend the study so as to cover the
share holders and non-share holder customers. Limitations
of time were also responsible for restricting this study.
The period of study was restricted to 1980-'81
to 1983-'84 as the data relating to earlier periods were
firstly not available from all banks and secondly the
prior data was considered out of date for the purpose of
the study.
