Abstract:
The unprecedented increase in competition as well
as protectionism in world markets makes it imperative for a
country like India to get much more energetically involved
in the export business and make the dictum "export and
flourish" a really true proposition, as against a somewhat
passive "export and perish" approach followed during the
last three and a half decades. At present, India needs to
evolve new export strategies to cope with the changing
international scenario and to ensure a steady improvement
in the otherwise sagging export performance. A search for
such strategic measures becomes all the more important in
view of the all-out efforts of the government for expanding
the country's exports to tide over the crippling balance of
payment deficits and to generate necessary foreign exchange
to meet the import requirements for accelerating the tempo
of economic development.
The present study is an endeavour in this
direction. Taking engineering exports as an example, the
study demonstrates alternative ways of understanding
indepth export performance analysis and learning lessons
for better performance in future

Abstract:
It examine the aspects of Madhya Pradesh’s industrial structure which throw light on the development, viability and the efficiency of not only the over all industrial sector but also some of the selected industries of the state. The major objectives of are to examine the nature and characteristics of economic backwardness in Madhya Pradesh in an inter-state comparative framework and to analyse the pace and pattern of industrial growth in Madhya Pradesh against the backdrop of liberalization. To explore the industrial structure of Madhya Pradesh using the major structural ratios and industry mix. This study has underlined some structural as well as region specific constraints to the accelerated growth of the manufacturing industry in Madhya Pradesh. The industrial structure of Madhya Pradesh is concentrated and lop-sided. This is evidenced by the dominancy of single industry, basic metal and alloys. A diversified industrial structure is essential for promoting interdependent growth of the manufacturing industry based on the inter-industry linkages and agglomeration. The thesis gives a broad spectrum of regional disparities in development and evidence for Madhya Pradesh’s backwardness also portrayed and reflects the changing industrial structure of the state.

Abstract:
The growth potential of service sector, especially the aviation
sector in the Indian economy is splendid. Therefore, it is crucial for the
airline service providers to realize their customers, design offers and
deliver the desired value to their customers. This study reveals the
effect of airline passenger satisfactions particularly on re-buy
intentions derived from the attributes-level performance dimensions of
both service aspects and loyalty programme of an airline.
The mediation effect of satisfaction and other selected
antecedents on the re-buy intention of a passenger is hypothesized in
this study. Critical areas affecting buying intentions such as core
service quality and loyalty attribute-level performances, effect of
frequent flyer programme and service quality satisfaction, passenger
trust on airline, brand image and moderating effects of perceived
value, frequent programme status and travel frequency of airline
passengers are linked in a structural model to assess the strength of
each facet in affecting re-buy intentions. Implications to the airlines
were made based on the finding that re-buy intentions cannot be
attributed solely to the impacts of frequent flyer programme, rather
affected through the mediation effect of airline service quality
satisfaction, which is very much valid for the higher FFP status
category of frequent travelers. The effects of moderation caused by
perceived value, FFP status and flying experience were also found to
be significant in making re-buy intentions.

Abstract:
The study is significant from both an application perspective of
marketing management as well as from an academic angle.
The market for personal care products is a highly fragmented one,
with intense competition for specific niche segments. It is well known in
marketing literature that the bulk of the volume of sale is accounted for by
the minority who are the heavy users. This study will help the marketers to
identify the personality profile of such a group and understand how the
interaction of personality factors at least partially explains differences in
consumption. This knowledge might be useful for better segmentation using
psychographic variables as well as for designing specific advertisement
campaigns to target the vulnerable groups of customers.
From a theoretical perspective, the research may contribute to
understanding how specific personality variables and their interaction lead to
differences in consumption. The knowledge corresponding to self theory,
social comparison theory, persuasibility, evidence from psychology of eating
disorders: these all may be integrated into a common frame work for
explaining consumption of products having a social function.

Abstract:
This research was undertaken with the primary objective of
explaining differences in consumption of personal care products using
personality variables. Several streams of research reported were reviewed
and a conceptual model was developed. Theories on the relationship between
self concept and behaviour was reviewed and the need to use individual
difference variables to conceptualize and measure the salient dimensions of
the self were emphasized. Theories relating to social comparison, eating
disorders, role of idealized media images in shaping the self-concept,
evidence on cosmetic surgery and persuasibility were reviewed in the study.
These came from diverse fields like social psychology, use of cosmetics,
women studies, media studies, self-concept literature in psychology and
consumer research, and marketing. From the review three basic dimensions,
namely self-evaluation, self-awareness and persuasibility were identified and
they were posited to be related to consumption. Several personality variables
from these conceptual domains were identified and factor analysis confirmed
the expected structure fitting the basic theoretical dimensions. Demographic
variables like gender and income were also considered.It was found that self-awareness measured by the variable public
self-consciousness explain differences in consumption of personal care
products. The relationship between public self-consciousness and
consumption was found to be most conspicuous in cases of poor self-,
evaluation measured by self-esteem. Susceptibility to advertising also was
found to explain differences in consumption.From the research, it may be concluded that personality variables are
useful for explaining consumption and they must be used together to explain
and understand the process. There may not be obvious and conspicuous links
between individual measures and behaviour in marketing. However, when used
in proper combination and with the help oftheoretical models personality offers
considerable explanatory power as illustrated in the seventy five percent
accuracy rate of prediction obtained in binary logistic regression.

Abstract:
In this study the relationship between Innovative HR practices and selected HR outcomes is investigated.The current study represents a unique attempt to study the effects of innovative HR practices,with job satisfaction,organisational commitment and organisational citizenship bahaviour considered as the consequent variables.Results have affirmed the role of intervening variables such as job satisfaction and organisational commitment in establishing the link between IHRP and OCB obliterating any direct relation between IHRP and organisational citizenship behaviour.This finding may enable researchers in the human resource management to develop more robust understandings of the positive effects of innnovative HR practices on HR outcomes.Thus the present study provides the obvious contribution of weaving up yet another linkage between the two complimentary disciplines of Human Resource Management and Organisational Behaviour.The present study also contributes to the understanding of OCB by exploring its antecedents and extending the intervening role of job satisfaction and organisational commitment.The findings indicate that a higher level of introduction/initiation and satisfaction of innovative HR practices produces high job satisfaction and organisational commitment which lead to OCB.The researcher drew upon the perception-attitude-behaviour model to further realise the expected relationship among innovative HR practices,job satisfaction,organisational commitment and organisational citizenship behaviour.Consequently,this study makes a contribution to the broader organisational citizenship behaviour literature by manifesting the extended relationship path from innovative HR practices to organisational citizenship behaviour,and demonstrating that innovative Hr practices at the organisational level has an effect on employee attitudes and behaviours as well.

Abstract:
The overall focus of the thesis involves the International trade and cochin port a historical and statistical analysis 1881-1980.Analysing the trend of exports and imports through cochin port during the course of the last hundred years .This analysis has brought to light some very pertinent facts which , in our opinion,deserve serious consideration of the policy makers,the partise involved in trade and those who are interested in the development of the cochin port.Our study is restricted to twelve commodities -ten commodities of exports and two commodities of imports.The study reveals that the commodities that were exported from cochin are subjected to fluctuations -some mild and others wild.
The projections only indicate the potential and unless we are very cautious the chance will be taken away by our competitors .With reference to the development of the port in particular and the states economy in general we would like to make a suggestion .This suggestion relates to declaring cochin as a free port .This will go a long way in the develppment of the port and the state's economy.The sooner it is done the better for the port and the state.

Abstract:
Indian economy is witnessing stellar growth over the last few years. There have been rapid developments in infrastructural and business front during the growth period.Internet adoption among Indians has been increasing over the last one decade.Indian banks have also risen to the occasion by offering new channels of delivery to their customers.Internet banking is one such new channel which has become available to Indian customers.Customer acceptance for internet banking has been good so far.In this study the researcher tried to conduct a qualitative and quantitative investigation of internet banking customer acceptance among Indians. The researcher tried to identify important factors that affect customer's behavioral intention for internet banking .The researcher also proposes a research model which has extended from Technology Acceptance Model for predicting internet banking acceptance.The findings of the study would be useful for Indian banks in planning and upgrading their internet banking service.Banks could increase internet banking adoption by making their customer awareness about the usefulness of the service.It is seen that from the study that the variable perceived usefulness has a positive influence on internet banking use,therefore internet banking acceptance would increase when customers find it more usefulness.Banks should plan their marketing campaigns taking into consideration this factor.Proper marketing communications which would increase consumer awareness would result in better acceptance of internet banking.The variable perceived ease of use had a positive influence on internet banking use.That means customers would increase internet banking usage when they find it easier to use.Banks should therefore try to develop their internet banking site and interface easier to use.Banks could also consider providing practical training sessions for customers at their branches on usage of internet banking interface.

Abstract:
The present study entitled ‘Inter-State Variations in Manufacturing
Productivity and Technological Changes in India’ covers a period of 38 years from l960 tol998-99. The study is mainly based on ASI data. The study starts with a discussion of the major facilitating factors of industrialization, namely, historical forces, public policy and infrastructure facilities. These are discussed in greater details in the context of our discussion on Perrox’s (1998) ‘growth pole’ and ‘development pole’, Hirschman’s (1958) ‘industrial centers’ and Myrdal’s ‘spread effect’ Most of the existing literature more or less agrees that the process of
industrialization has not been unifonn in all Indian states. There has been a decline in inter-state industrial disparities over time. This aspect is dealt at some length in the third chapter. An important element that deserves detailed attention is the intra-regional differences in industrialisation. Regional industrialisation implies the emergence of a few focal points and industrial regions. Calcutta, Bombay and Madras were the initial focal points. Later other centers like Bangalore, Amritsar, Ahemedabad etc. emerged as nodal points in other states. All major states account for focal points. The analysis made in the third chapter shows that industrial activities generally converge to one or two focal points and industrial regions have emerged out of the focal points in almost all states. One of the general features of these complexes and regions is that they approximately accommodate
50 to 75 percent of the total industrial units and workers in the state. Such convergence is seen hands in glow with urbanization. It was further seen that intra-regional industrial disparity comes down in industrial states like Maharashtra, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh.

Abstract:
The thesis entitled Inventory Management In Public Sector Electrical Industry In Kerala. Investigations were carried out on inventory management in public sector electrical industry in Kerala and suggest methods to improve their efficiency. Various aspects of inventory management, its scope and need in industry are detailed. The objectives of the present study concentrates to get an overall view of the system of inventory management, assess the positions and levels of inventory. It analyzes the inventory management policies and practices, the organizational set-up for materials by the electrical undertakings. The study examines the liquidity of the electrical undertakings as well as techniques of inventory management in the electrical industry in Kerala. Hypotheses state that the existing organizational systems and practices are inadequate to ensure efficient management of inventories in electrical industry. Introduction of scientific inventory techniques has a favourable effect on the workings of inventory departments. The financial performance of the public sector electrical undertakings is not at all satisfactory on account of the high raw material costs, heavy borrowings and huge interest burdens. The scope of this study is limited to the assessment of savings, in inventories of electrical products due to inventory management. The methodology of the study is to project the cost reduction of the inventory department on the basis of data collected and to validate this projection with the aid of analysis and survey. The limitations of the study is that the data obtained relate to the period 1989-90 and earlier and the current position is not available and uniform norms cannot be applied to evaluate different inventory management organisation.
