Abstract: | In recent years, reversible logic has emerged as one of the most important approaches for power optimization with its application in low power CMOS, nanotechnology and quantum computing. This research proposes quick addition of decimals (QAD) suitable for multi-digit BCD addition, using reversible conservative logic. The design makes use of reversible fault tolerant Fredkin gates only. The implementation strategy is to reduce the number of levels of delay there by increasing the speed, which is the most important factor for high speed circuits. |

Abstract: | This paper describes about an English-Malayalam Cross-Lingual Information Retrieval system. The system retrieves Malayalam documents in response to query given in English or Malayalam. Thus monolingual information retrieval is also supported in this system. Malayalam is one of the most prominent regional languages of Indian subcontinent. It is spoken by more than 37 million people and is the native language of Kerala state in India. Since we neither had any full-fledged online bilingual dictionary nor any parallel corpora to build the statistical lexicon, we used a bilingual dictionary developed in house for translation. Other language specific resources like Malayalam stemmer, Malayalam morphological root analyzer etc developed in house were used in this work |

Abstract: | This paper describes JERIM-320, a new 320-bit hash function used for ensuring message integrity and details a comparison with popular hash functions of similar design. JERIM-320 and FORK -256 operate on four parallel lines of message processing while RIPEMD-320 operates on two parallel lines. Popular hash functions like MD5 and SHA-1 use serial successive iteration for designing compression functions and hence are less secure. The parallel branches help JERIM-320 to achieve higher level of security using multiple iterations and processing on the message blocks. The focus of this work is to prove the ability of JERIM 320 in ensuring the integrity of messages to a higher degree to suit the fast growing internet applications |

Abstract: | Extensive use of the Internet coupled with the marvelous growth in e-commerce and m-commerce has created a huge demand for information security. The Secure Socket Layer (SSL) protocol is the most widely used security protocol in the Internet which meets this demand. It provides protection against eaves droppings, tampering and forgery. The cryptographic algorithms RC4 and HMAC have been in use for achieving security services like confidentiality and authentication in the SSL. But recent attacks against RC4 and HMAC have raised questions in the confidence on these algorithms. Hence two novel cryptographic algorithms MAJE4 and MACJER-320 have been proposed as substitutes for them. The focus of this work is to demonstrate the performance of these new algorithms and suggest them as dependable alternatives to satisfy the need of security services in SSL. The performance evaluation has been done by using practical implementation method. |

Abstract: | This paper presents methods for moving object detection in airborne video surveillance. The motion segmentation in the above scenario is usually difficult because of small size of the object, motion of camera, and inconsistency in detected object shape etc. Here we present a motion segmentation system for moving camera video, based on background subtraction. An adaptive background building is used to take advantage of creation of background based on most recent frame. Our proposed system suggests CPU efficient alternative for conventional batch processing based background subtraction systems. We further refine the segmented motion by meanshift based mode association. |

Abstract: | Cluster based protocols like LEACH were found best suited for routing in wireless sensor networks. In mobility centric environments some improvements were suggested in the basic scheme. LEACH-Mobile is one such protocol. The basic LEACH protocol is improved in the mobile scenario by ensuring whether a sensor node is able to communicate with its cluster head. Since all the nodes, including cluster head is moving it will be better to elect a node as cluster head which is having less mobility related to its neighbours. In this paper, LEACH-Mobile protocol has been enhanced based on a mobility metric “remoteness” for cluster head election. This ensures high success rate in data transfer between the cluster head and the collector nodes even though nodes are moving. We have simulated and compared our LEACH-Mobile-Enhanced protocol with LEACHMobile. Results show that inclusion of neighbouring node information improves the routing protocol. |

Abstract: | The recent trends envisage multi-standard architectures as a promising solution for the future wireless transceivers to attain higher system capacities and data rates. The computationally intensive decimation filter plays an important role in channel selection for multi-mode systems. An efficient reconfigurable implementation is a key to achieve low power consumption. To this end, this paper presents a dual-mode Residue Number System (RNS) based decimation filter which can be programmed for WCDMA and 802.16e standards. Decimation is done using multistage, multirate finite impulse response (FIR) filters. These FIR filters implemented in RNS domain offers high speed because of its carry free operation on smaller residues in parallel channels. Also, the FIR filters exhibit programmability to a selected standard by reconfiguring the hardware architecture. The total area is increased only by 24% to include WiMAX compared to a single mode WCDMA transceiver. In each mode, the unused parts of the overall architecture is powered down and bypassed to attain power saving. The performance of the proposed decimation filter in terms of critical path delay and area are tabulated. |

Abstract: | In wireless sensor networks, the routing algorithms currently available assume that the sensor nodes are stationary. Therefore when mobility modulation is applied to the wireless sensor networks, most of the current routing algorithms suffer from performance degradation. The path breaks in mobile wireless networks are due to the movement of mobile nodes, node failure, channel fading and shadowing. It is desirable to deal with dynamic topology changes with optimal effort in terms of resource and channel utilization. As the nodes in wireless sensor medium make use of wireless broadcast to communicate, it is possible to make use of neighboring node information to recover from path failure. Cooperation among the neighboring nodes plays an important role in the context of routing among the mobile nodes. This paper proposes an enhancement to an existing protocol for accommodating node mobility through neighboring node information while keeping the utilization of resources to a minimum. |

Abstract: | Decimal multiplication is an integral part offinancial, commercial, and internet-based computations. The basic building block of a decimal multiplier is a single digit multiplier. It accepts two Binary Coded Decimal (BCD) inputs and gives a product in the range [0, 81] represented by two BCD digits. A novel design for single digit decimal multiplication that reduces the critical path delay and area is proposed in this research. Out of the possible 256 combinations for the 8-bit input, only hundred combinations are valid BCD inputs. In the hundred valid combinations only four combinations require 4 x 4 multiplication, combinations need x multiplication, and the remaining combinations use either x or x 3 multiplication. The proposed design makes use of this property. This design leads to more regular VLSI implementation, and does not require special registers for storing easy multiples. This is a fully parallel multiplier utilizing only combinational logic, and is extended to a Hex/Decimal multiplier that gives either a decimal output or a binary output. The accumulation ofpartial products generated using single digit multipliers is done by an array of multi-operand BCD adders for an (n-digit x n-digit) multiplication. |

Abstract: | Decimal multiplication is an integral part of financial, commercial, and internet-based computations. A novel design for single digit decimal multiplication that reduces the critical path delay and area for an iterative multiplier is proposed in this research. The partial products are generated using single digit multipliers, and are accumulated based on a novel RPS algorithm. This design uses n single digit multipliers for an n × n multiplication. The latency for the multiplication of two n-digit Binary Coded Decimal (BCD) operands is (n + 1) cycles and a new multiplication can begin every n cycle. The accumulation of final partial products and the first iteration of partial product generation for next set of inputs are done simultaneously. This iterative decimal multiplier offers low latency and high throughput, and can be extended for decimal floating-point multiplication. |

Abstract: | The modern telecommunication industry demands higher capacity networks with high data rate. Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is a promising technique for high data rate wireless communications at reasonable complexity in wireless channels. OFDM has been adopted for many types of wireless systems like wireless local area networks such as IEEE 802.11a, and digital audio/video broadcasting (DAB/DVB). The proposed research focuses on a concatenated coding scheme that improve the performance of OFDM based wireless communications. It uses a Redundant Residue Number System (RRNS) code as the outer code and a convolutional code as the inner code. The bit error rate (BER) performances of the proposed system under different channel conditions are investigated. These include the effect of additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN), multipath delay spread, peak power clipping and frame start synchronization error. The simulation results show that the proposed RRNS-Convolutional concatenated coding (RCCC) scheme provides significant improvement in the system performance by exploiting the inherent properties of RRNS. |

Contiki, a prominent Operating System in the domain is even more affected by the problem since it makes extensive use of Type casts and Pointers. The work is an attempt to nullify the possibility of Safety violations in Contiki. We use a powerful, still efficient tool called Deputy to achieve this. We also try to automate the process |

Abstract: | Biclustering is simultaneous clustering of both rows and columns of a data matrix. A measure called Mean Squared Residue (MSR) is used to simultaneously evaluate the coherence of rows and columns within a submatrix. In this paper a novel algorithm is developed for biclustering gene expression data using the newly introduced concept of MSR difference threshold. In the first step high quality bicluster seeds are generated using K-Means clustering algorithm. Then more genes and conditions (node) are added to the bicluster. Before adding a node the MSR X of the bicluster is calculated. After adding the node again the MSR Y is calculated. The added node is deleted if Y minus X is greater than MSR difference threshold or if Y is greater than MSR threshold which depends on the dataset. The MSR difference threshold is different for gene list and condition list and it depends on the dataset also. Proper values should be identified through experimentation in order to obtain biclusters of high quality. The results obtained on bench mark dataset clearly indicate that this algorithm is better than many of the existing biclustering algorithms |

Abstract: | Author identification is the problem of identifying the author of an anonymous text or text whose authorship is in doubt from a given set of authors. The works by different authors are strongly distinguished by quantifiable features of the text. This paper deals with the attempts made on identifying the most likely author of a text in Malayalam from a list of authors. Malayalam is a Dravidian language with agglutinative nature and not much successful tools have been developed to extract syntactic & semantic features of texts in this language. We have done a detailed study on the various stylometric features that can be used to form an authors profile and have found that the frequencies of word collocations can be used to clearly distinguish an author in a highly inflectious language such as Malayalam. In our work we try to extract the word level and character level features present in the text for characterizing the style of an author. Our first step was towards creating a profile for each of the candidate authors whose texts were available with us, first from word n-gram frequencies and then by using variable length character n-gram frequencies. Profiles of the set of authors under consideration thus formed, was then compared with the features extracted from anonymous text, to suggest the most likely author. |

Abstract: | In this paper we address the problem of face detection and recognition of grey scale frontal view images. We propose a face recognition system based on probabilistic neural networks (PNN) architecture. The system is implemented using voronoi/ delaunay tessellations and template matching. Images are segmented successfully into homogeneous regions by virtue of voronoi diagram properties. Face verification is achieved using matching scores computed by correlating edge gradients of reference images. The advantage of classification using PNN models is its short training time. The correlation based template matching guarantees good classification results |
