Abstract:
This thesis Entitled Application of Biofloc technology (BFT) In the Nursery Rearing and Farming of
Giant Freshwater Prawn,Macrobrachium Rosenbergii(De Man). Aquaculture, rearing plants and animals under controlled conditions is growing with an annual growth rate of 8.3% in the period 1970-2008 (FAO, 2010). This trend of growth is essential for the supply of protein-rich food for ever increasing world population. But growth and development of aquaculture should be in sustainable manner, preferably without jeopardizing the aquatic environment.In the present study, the application of BFT in the nursery rearing and farming ofgiant freshwater prawn, M. rosenbergii, is attempted. The result of the study is organised into eight chapters. In the first chapter, the subject is adequately introduced. Various types of aquaculture practices followed, development and status of Indian aquaculture, present status of freshwater pravm culture, BF T and its use for the sustainable aquaculture systems, theory of BFT based aquaculture practices, hypothesis, objective and outline of the thesis are described. An extensive review of literature on studies carried out so far on biofloc based aquaculture are given in chapter 2. The third chapter deals with the application of BFT in the primary nursery phase of freshwater prawn. Several workers suggested the need for an intermediate nursery phase in the culture system of freshwater prawn for the successful production. Thirty day experiment was conducted to study the effect of BFT on the water quality, and animal welfare under the various stocking densities.
The study concluded that stocking finfishes in biofloc-based monoculture system of freshwater prawns has the potential of increasing total yield. Prawns having a higher commercial value than finfishes besides ensuring economic sustainability. Results showed that prawn yield and survival was better in catla dominated tanks. Based on the results of the study, it is recommended to incorporate 25% rohu and 75% catla in the biofloc-based culture system of giant freshwater prawns. The results of the
present study also recommend to stock relatively larger catla for biofloc-based culture system. Fish production was also higher in the 100% catla tank. When catla was added in higher percentages it should ensured that the hiding objects in the culture ponds shall be used in order to reduce the chance of cannibalism among prawns. rohu and catla equally have the ability to harvest the biofloc, catla consumes the planktonic contributes in the floc whereas rohu grazed on the bacterial consortium suspended in the water column. In Chapter 8, recommendations and future research perspectives in
the field of biofloc based aquaculture is presented.

Abstract:
The present thesis develops from the point of view of titania sol-gel chemistry and an attempt is made to address the modification of the process for better photoactive titania
by selective doping and also demonstration of utilization of the process for the
preparation of supported membranes and self cleaning films.A general introduction to nanomaterials, nanocrystalline titania and sol-gel
chemistry are presented in the first chapter. A brief and updated literature review on
sol-gel titania, with special emphasis on catalytic and photocatalytic properties and
anatase to rutile transformation are covered. Based on critical assessment of the reported
information the present research problem has been defined.The second chapter describes a new aqueous sol-gel method for the preparation
of nanocrystalline titania using titanyl sulphate as precursor. This approach is novel
since no earlier work has been reported in the same lines proposed here. The sol-gel
process has been followed at each step using particle size, zeta potential measurements
on the sol and thermal analysis of the resultant gel. The prepared powders were then
characterized using X-ray diffraction, FTIR, BET surface area analysis and transmission
electron microscopy.The third chapter presents a detailed discussion on the physico-chemical
characterization of the aqueous sol-gel derived doped titania. The effect of dopants such
as tantalum, gadolinium and ytterbium on the anatase to rutile phase transformation,
surface area as well as their influence on photoactivity is also included.
The fourth chapter demonstrates application of the aqueous sol-gel method in
developing titania coatings on porous alumina substrates for controlling the poresize for
use as membrane elements in ultrafiltration. Thin coatings having ~50 nm thickness and
transparency of ~90% developed on glass surface were tested successfully for self
cleaning applications.

Abstract:
This study is concerned with Autoregressive Moving Average (ARMA) models of time series. ARMA models form a subclass of the class of general linear models which represents stationary time series, a phenomenon encountered most often in practice by engineers, scientists and economists. It is always desirable to employ models which use parameters parsimoniously. Parsimony will be achieved by ARMA models because it has only finite number of parameters. Even though the discussion is primarily concerned with stationary time series, later we will take
up the case of homogeneous non stationary time series which can be transformed to stationary time series. Time series models, obtained with the help of the present and past data is used for forecasting future values. Physical science as well as social science take benefits of forecasting models. The role of forecasting cuts across all fields of management-—finance, marketing, production, business economics, as also in signal process, communication engineering, chemical processes, electronics etc. This high applicability of time series is the motivation to this study.

Abstract:
Aim of the present work was to automate CSP process, to deposit and
characterize CuInS2/In2S3 layers using this system and to fabricate devices using
these films.An automated spray system for the deposition of compound
semiconductor thin films was designed and developed so as to eliminate the manual
labour involved in spraying and facilitate standardization of the method. The system
was designed such that parameters like spray rate, movement of spray head, duration
of spray, temperature of substrate, pressure of carrier gas and height of the spray head
from the substrate could be varied. Using this system, binary, ternary as well as
quaternary films could be successfully deposited.The second part of the work deal with deposition and characterization of
CuInS2 and In2S3 layers respectively.In the case of CuInS2 absorbers, the effects of
different preparation conditions and post deposition treatments on the optoelectronic,
morphological and structural properties were investigated. It was observed
that preparation conditions and post deposition treatments played crucial role in controlling the properties of the films. The studies in this direction were useful in
understanding how the variation in spray parameters tailored the properties of the
absorber layer. These results were subsequently made use of in device fabrication
process.Effects of copper incorporation in
In2S3 films were investigated to find how the diffusion of Cu from CuInS2 to In2S3
will affect the properties at the junction. It was noticed that there was a regular
variation in the opto-electronic properties with increase in copper concentration.Devices were fabricated on ITO coated glass using CuInS2 as absorber and
In2S3 as buffer layer with silver as the top electrode. Stable devices could be
deposited over an area of 0.25 cm2, even though the efficiency obtained was not high.
Using manual spray system, we could achieve devices of area 0.01 cm2 only. Thus
automation helped in obtaining repeatable results over larger areas than those
obtained while using the manual unit. Silver diffusion on the cells before coating the
electrodes resulted in better collection of carriers.From this work it was seen CuInS2/In2S3 junction deposited through
automated spray process has potential to achieve high efficiencies.

(1.19) when the sample contain a known number of outliers under three different data generating mechanisms, viz. the exchangeable model. Chapter V the prediction of a future observation based on a random sample that contains one contaminant. Chapter VI is devoted to the study of estimation

Abstract:
In the present thesis, possibility of beam shaping of sectoral horns and corner reflector systems'has been studied in detail. The experimental results obtained in the above two cases are compared. As far as the flanged sectoral horns are concerned, the special advantage is that the gain is increased without impairing impedance conditions. An intense study on corner reflector antennas shows that the been broadening or focussing will be possible by adjusting parameters
involved. Beam tilting by imposing asymmetries is another interesting property of the systems. A comprehensive study of these fields has been presented in Chapter II. Chapter III is exclusively for describing the experimental techniques used in the present investigation.
In Chapter IV, experimental results on flanged sectoral horns and corner reflector eyetses are presented. A comparative analysis of the experimental results obtained with flanged sectoral horns and corner reflector systems is presented in the Chapter V. The similarity and close resemblance in each aspects are shown by presenting typical results from these two eysteee.
Theoretical aspects of both types of antennas are considered in Chapter VI. Attempts are made for co-ordinating the theoretical aspects and drawing a final conclusion. In Chapter VII. the final conclusion that the flanged sectoral horn may be considered as a corner reflector system has been drawn. The importance of the conclusions and usefulness are pointed out. The scope for further
work in these lines has been indicated.

Abstract:
Myocardial ischemia is caused by the inadequate supply of blood to the myocardium usually as a result of coronary artery disease. Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death worldwide and coronary artery disease is the greatest contributor, with 7.5 million deaths annually. Currently available drugs are able to alleviate the symptoms but have undesirable effects and secondary complications. Tribulus terrestris L. root and fruit are used in Ayurveda to treat heart ailments. But a scientific validation of the protective property of the herb against myocardial ischemia and the mechanism by which Tribulus terrestris L. mediates the protection has not been carried out. The objective of the present thesis is to elucidate the molecular mechanism of the beneficial property of Tribulus terrestris L. fruit and root against myocardial ischemia and cardiac dysfunctions by employing in vitro and in vivo models.

Abstract:
In the current study, a novel non-acetone forming butanol and ethanol producer
Was isolated and identified. Based on the 16s rDNA sequence BLAST and phylogenetic analyses, it was found to have high similarity with the reported hydrogen producing strains of Clostridium sporogenes. Biochemical studies revealed that it is lipase and protease positive. The lipolytic and proteolytic properties are the very important characteristics of Clostridium sporogenes. Sugar utilization profile studies were positive for glucose, saccharose, cellobiose and weakly positive result to xylose. This study demonstrated C. sporogenes BE01, an isolate from NIIST is having potential to compete with existing, well known butanol producers with the advantage of no acetone in the final solvent mixture. Rice straw hydrolysate is a potent source of substrate for butanol production by C. sporogenes BE01. Additional supplementation of vitamins and minerals were avoided by using rice straw hydrolysate as substrate. Its less growth, due to the inhibitors present in the hydrolysate and also inhibition by products resulted in less efficient conversion of sugars to butanol. Calcium carbonate played an important role in improving the butanol production, by providing the buffering action during fermentation and stimulating the electron transport mediators and redox reactions favoring butanol production. Its capability to produce acetic acid, butyric acid and hydrogen in significant quantities during butanol production adds value to the conversion process of lignocellulosic biomass to butanol. High cell density fermentation by immobilizing the cells on to ceramic particles improved the solvents and VFA production. Reduced sugar utilization from the concentrated hydrolysate could be due to accumulation of inhibitors in the hydrolysate during concentration. Two-stage fermentation was very efficient with immobilized cells
and high conversions of sugars to solvents and VFAs were achieved. The information obtained from the study would be useful to develop a feasible technology for conversion of lignocellulosic biomass to biobutanol.

Abstract:
The current study is an attempt to find a means of lowering oxalate concentration in individuals susceptible to recurrent calcium oxalate stone disease.The formation of renal stone composed of calcium oxalate is a complex process that remains poorly understood and treatment of idiopathic recurrent stone formers is quite difficult and this area has attracted lots of research workers. The main objective of this work are to study the effect of certain mono and dicarboxylic acids on calcium oxalate crystal growth in vitro, isolation and characterization of oxalate degrading bacteria, study the biochemical effect of sodium glycollate and dicarboxylic acids on oxalate metabolism in experimental stone forming rats and To investigate the effect of dicarboxylic acids on oxalate metabolism in experimental hyperoxaluric rats. Oxalic acid is one of the most highly oxidized organic compound widely distributed in the diets of man and animals, and ingestion of plants that contain high concentration of oxalate may lead to intoxication. Excessive ingestion of dietary oxalate may lead to hyperoxaluria and calcium oxalate stone disease.The formation of calcium oxalate stone in the urine is dependent on the saturation level of both calcium and oxalate. Thus the management of one or both of these ions in individuals susceptible to urolithiasis appears to be important. The control of endogenous oxalate synthesis from its precursors in hyperoxaluric situation is likely to yield beneficial results and can be a useful approach in the medical management of urinary stones. A variety of compounds have been investigated to curtain endogenous oxalate synthesis which is a crucial factor, most of these compounds have not proved to be effective in the in vivo situation and some of them are not free from the toxic effect. The non-operative management of stone disease has been practiced in ancient India in the three famous indigenous systems of medicine, Ayurveda, Unani and Siddha, and proved to be effective.However the efficiency of most of these substances is still questionable and demands further study. Man as well as other mammals cannot metabolize oxalic acid. Excessive ingestion of oxalic acid can arise from oxalate rich food and from its major metabolic precursors, glycollate, glyoxylate and ascorbic acid can lead to an acute oxalate toxicity. Increasedlevels of circulating oxalate, which can result in a variety of diseases including renal failure and oxalate lithiasis. The ability to enzymatically degrade oxalate to less noxious Isubstances, formate and CO2, could benefit a great number of individuals including those afflicted with hyperoxaluria and calcium oxalate stone disease.

Abstract:
The present work is organized into six chapters. Bivariate extension of
Burr system is the subject matter of Chapter II. The author proposes to introduce a general structure for the family in two dimensions and present some properties of such a system. Also in Chapter II some new distributions, which are bivariate
extension of univariate distributions in Burr (1942) is presented.. In Chapter III, concentrates on characterization problems of different forms of bivariate Burr system. A detailed study of the distributional properties of each member of the
Burr system has not been undertaken in literature. With this aim in mind in Chapter
IV is discussed with two forms of bivariate Burr III distribution. In Chapter V the author Considers the type XII, type II and type IX distributions.
Present work concludes with Chapter VI by pointing out the multivariate
extension for Burr system. Also in this chapter the concept of
multivariate reversed hazard rates as scalar and vector quantity is introduced.

Abstract:
Parkinson's disease is a chronic progressive neurodegenerative movement
disorder characterized by a profound and selective loss of nigrostriatal dopaminergic
neurons. Our findings demonstrated that glutamatergic system is impaired during PD.
The evaluations of these damages have important implications in understanding the
molecular mechanism underlying motor, cognitive and memory deficits in PD. Our
results showed a significant increase of glutamate content in the brain regions of 6-
OHDA infused rat compared to control. This increased glutamate content caused an
increase in glutamatergic and NMDA receptors function. Glutamate receptor
subtypes- NMDAR1, NMDA2B and mGluR5 have differential regulatory role in
different brain regions during PD. The second messenger studies confirmed that the
changes in the receptor levels alter the IP3, cAMP and cGMP content. The alteration
in the second messengers level increased the expression of pro-apoptotic factors - Bax
and TNF-α, intercellular protein - α-synuclein and reduced the expression of
transcription factor - CREB. These neurofunctional variations are the key contributors
to motor and cognitive abnormalities associated with PD. Nestin and GFAP
expression study confirmed that 5-HT and GABA induced the differentiation and
proliferation of the BMC to neurons and glial cells in the SNpc of rats. We also
observed that activated astrocytes are playing a crucial role in the proliferation of
transplanted BMC which makes them significant for stem cell-based therapy. Our
molecular and behavioural results showed that 5-HT and GABA along with BMC
potentiates a restorative effect by reversing the alterations in glutamate receptor
binding, gene expression and behaviour abnormality that occur during PD. The
therapeutic significance in Parkinson’s disease is of prominence.
